No costumes, no baskets, no baby folded into a pose. I come to your house, set up a few simple moments, like everyone piled on the bed by the window, and keep shooting while you relax into them. In between, I photograph the everyday stuff: feeding, rocking, pacing the hallway, the big sister who wants to hold the baby right now.
Most parents tell me they barely remember the first month. That's what these photos are for.

What your session looks like, start to finish.
1. Book while you're expecting. Pick a date about two weeks after your due date. It's a placeholder, and we can move it once the baby is here.
2. Text me when the baby arrives. We'll pick a day when they're 1 to 4 weeks old. Younger babies sleep more and older ones are more alert, and both make great photos.
3. The session. I'll spend 1 to 2 hours at your house, and we go at the baby's pace: feeding, changing and settling all happen on camera or off, whatever you want. I only need one room with good window light, so tidy that one room and leave the rest.
4. Your gallery. You'll get a preview gallery to choose your favorites. Send them within a week, and your finished images arrive in 3 to 4 weeks.

This is your family at home with a new person in it. I'll put you in a few spots and situations, like the bed by the window or the rocking chair, then keep shooting as you settle in and start being yourselves. Between those, I photograph what caring for a newborn actually looks like: feeding, changing, walking them to sleep. Giving it 1 to 2 hours means we can follow the baby's lead and still get both. Older siblings and pets are part of it too, and you'll get the small details, like fingers, toes and newborn hair.

Bundles
Maternity, newborn, and a family session around their first birthday: a 45-minute Simple Session outside with everyone, once they're crawling or walking. Three chapters of the same year, photographed by the same person. Book the third session any time before they turn 15 months. Want more time? Make it The Wanderer for $200 more.

Maternity + Newborn
Your last weeks of pregnancy and your first weeks with the baby. Two chapters, photographed by the same person, so they look right side by side in one album. When you book, I hold time around your due date for the newborn session. If the baby comes before the maternity session, your deposit moves to the newborn session.

Love more than 25? Add single images for $40 each, edited just like your favorites. Or keep the whole gallery for $400: every image gets my color and light edit, with detailed retouching where it matters most.
Prints and albums
Most photos live on a phone and get looked at twice. The ones on a wall or in an album get looked at every day. I offer albums and framed prints through a professional lab, and I'll help you choose the images and sizes so they look right in your home.

Hello, there! I’m Susan.
I’m a mom too, so I know what those first weeks feel like, and I’ll work around feeding, naps and whatever else the day brings. I came to photography through film, and I still shoot like I’m telling a story: a few set-up moments, then everything that happens in between. I split my time between Boulder and Breckenridge and photograph families from the Front Range up to Summit County.

As soon as you know your due date. I only take a few newborn sessions each month, so it's worth booking early.

I only need one room with a window. We could get a whole session on the parents bed. And if you have a newborn and your house isn’t a mess… then please tell me your secret!

That's a normal newborn session. We stop for feeding and settling as often as needed, which is why I give it up to 2 hours.

I don't put babies in costumes or baskets, or mold them into positions they wouldn't settle into on their own. I bring a few soft things, like my sheepskin, and we keep it cozy and simple. If you you baby swaddled into a basket in a chicken costume, I'm not the right fit.

Soft, simple clothes you're comfortable sitting on a bed in. I'll send my newborn style guide once you book.

Yes! There's no travel fee anywhere in Boulder or Summit County. Outside that, there's a travel fee for the extra time on the road.

It's $200 per session: $200 for a newborn session, $400 for Maternity + Newborn, and $600 for The First Year. It goes toward your total, and the rest of each session is paid before it happens. The deposit isn't refundable, but if we need to reschedule, it moves with you.
