Before I picked a camera back up, I spent years on the other side of brand shoots. I ran a digital marketing business and art directed photo and video shoots, mostly for outdoor brands. I wrote the shot lists and scouted the locations. Then I sat at my desk trying to make the final images work on a homepage, in an ad and on various social media platforms who all require different things.
That’s where I learned something most businesses figure out the hard way: a lot of photos isn’t the same as photos you can use.
Now I’m the one with the camera, and that background shapes every brand shoot I do.
Who it’s for
Small to medium sized businesses. Studios, shops, wellness practices: anyone whose space and people are part of what they sell.
Personal brands. Coaches, consultants, creatives, anyone whose face is the business.
Teams. Headshots and group photos that look like you, outside in Colorado instead of in front of a gray backdrop.
We start with where the photos will go
My first question isn’t what you’re going to wear. It’s where these photos will be used. Your homepage needs a wide shot with room for a headline. Instagram wants vertical. Your About page needs one photo that looks like the person clients will meet. A services page might need your hands at work, your tools or a corner of your space.
Once I know that, we build a shot list around it. The list is what keeps you from ending up with 200 nice photos and nothing that fits next to your headline.
Photos that look like your business
People can spot stock photos, and they scroll right past them. What works is your real space, your real clients (with their permission) and you doing the work you do. I’ll guide you: where to stand, what to do with your hands, when to look at the camera. Then I’ll let you get into your work, so the photos look like a normal Tuesday and not a photo day.
My favorite frames usually come from the moments in between, like a laugh with a client or the second you look up from what you’re making.
Where we shoot
Your space, if it says something about you. Outside, if your business is tied to being in Colorado. I’ve spent over 25 years in and around Boulder and Breckenridge. I know where the light falls at different times of day and how to find a spot without a crowd in the background.
What it costs
Every brand shoot is quoted around what you need, so there’s no set package. A personal brand session for one person looks very different from a full day photographing a business and its team. Tell me what you have in mind, and I’ll put together a plan and a price.
Need help using them?
I still help a few clients with marketing strategy. If your website or social media needs attention too, we can talk about that as part of the plan. Learn more about my marketing services.
Tell me about your business
Send me a few lines about what you do and where the photos need to go. I’ll follow up personally with ideas and a quote.
